On September 13, 2018, Wright Auction house in Chicago, IL. auctioned off 304 lots of personal items and rare treasures directly from the Rand estate. Paintings, posters, toys, furniture, pottery, sculpture, advertising and artist tools were among the items.
The auction came on the heels of the passing of Rand’s third wife Marion Swannie and the sale of their legendary home in Weston, CT.
Paul Rand: The Art of Design captured the attention of hundreds – from individual collectors to institutions such as Letterform Archive – illustrating the breadth of the pioneering designer’s influence. An unprecedented success, the results totaled more than double the pre-sale estimate.
